In the story, the Banished, led by Brute War Chief Escharum, have declared victory over the UNSC forces and taken over a Halo ring. We also see some of the Banished, Halo Infinite's main alien antagonists who were previously seen in Halo Wars 2. In the menu screen, we also see an item called 'Upgrades', suggesting you can make RPG-style improvements to Master Chief, which would be a first for the series. 343 Industries says the environment in Halo Infinite is "several times larger than that of the last two Halo games combined" and we can see that there is a day and night cycle in play. This is a more open-world-looking Halo game, though, with an in-game map called the 'TacMap' that shows how you can explore different parts of this extra-sized Halo ring and tackle certain missions, each of which has its own difficult rating. It's reassuringly Halo-like, but leagues ahead in terms of presentation compared to the older games.
There's a familiarity to the verdant environments, as well as iconic weapons on display as well as vehicles from the long-running series, including the Warthog.
Halo Infinite kicked off the show during Microsoft's Xbox Game Showcase event in July 2020, and as you can see from the trailer above, it's very reminiscent of Halo: Combat Evolved.

Kyoko Iwase drives a 1993 Brilliant Black Mazda ɛ̃fini RX-7 FD3S as part of the Northern Saitama Alliance. One of the Akagi RedSuns members drives a dark green Mazda RX-7. Keisuke Takahashi drives a 1991 Competition Yellow Mica Mazda ɛ̃fini RX-7 FD3S during his time as part of the Akagi RedSuns, and later as part of Project D. The Type RS and Spirit R Type A both appear in the Arcade Stage games. Several FDs appear in the Initial D series, both of which being ɛ̃fini Type Rs. All members of the Akagi RedSuns in the Live Action movie drive FCs identical to Ryosuke's, only differing in their colour. Ryosuke Takahashi's 1990 Crystal White Mazda SAVANNA RX-7 ∞ III FC3S. Ryosuke uses this car during his time as leader of the Akagi RedSuns, and later modifies it for a battle against Rin Hojo during Project D's Kanagawa Expedition. Only one FC is featured in Initial D, the 1990 Crystal White Mazda SAVANNA RX-7 ∞ III driven by Ryosuke Takahashi. It was completely restyled to appeal more to the North American market, where the first generation had sold best. The second generation of the RX-7 was known as the Mazda Savanna RX-7 in Japan like its predecessor, the SA22C. 2.1.5 Fujita Engineering RX-7 Demon King.
